UNC has its next men's basketball coach in Michael Malone, and now, we know what he's set to be making at his new gig.
Malone's new contract was officially approved on Tuesday, and according to WRAL's Brian Murphy, it will pay him $50 million over a six-year deal. That's an average of $8.3 million, and it makes Malone one of the highest-paid coaches in America.
The former Denver Nuggets coach won an NBA championship during his decade-long tenure, but he was fired after the 2024-25 season. He has spent this season working in television, but he now returns to the college game for the first time since he was an assistant at Manhattan in 2001.
The Tar Heels made a bold hire in replacing Hubert Davis, looking outside the "family" of former players and assistants for the first time since 1952. It seems they're also investing quite a bit financially.
