PHILADELPHIA — Kylian Mbappe continues to rise on the all-time World Cup scoring list, tying Brazil's Ronaldo for third in history with 15 goals with his strike against Iraq on Monday,.

Mbappe had temporarily passed Lionel Messi his two goals against Senegal in France's group opener before Messi naeted a hat trick later the same day to tie Miroslav Klose's all-time record. Messi scored two more in Argentina's second group match on Monday, taking sole possession of the all-time mark.

At only 27, Mbappe appears a safe bet to eventually hold the record on his own some day. He helped France get back to the title game in 2022 and scored a stunning hat trick in the final – but France lost on penalty kicks to Messi and Argentina.

Mbappe joined Real Madrid prior to the 2024-25 season from Paris Saint-Germain.
