LeBron James marked the anniversary of one of the most famous free-agency moments in NBA history in a much quieter way this year.

Sixteen years after announcing his move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat on ESPN’s The Decision, the NBA superstar was spotted enjoying time on a golf course while speculation over his next move continues.

The timing made the outing even more interesting, with James currently an unrestricted free agent after deciding to move on from the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.

LeBron James spends ‘The Decision’ anniversary on the golf course​

According to TMZ, James uploaded an Instagram story where he was seen on a golf course on July 8, the same date he changed the NBA landscape in 2010 by announcing that he would “take his talents to South Beach.”

That decision led to his move to Miami, where he joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to form one of the league’s most talked-about super-teams.


This time, there was no television special or major announcement. Instead, James appeared to keep things relaxed as fans continued waiting for clarity on his future.

LeBron’s next NBA decision remains unclear​

The golf outing comes at a time when James’ free agency has become one of the biggest talking points of the offseason.

NBA.com reported that his agent, Rich Paul, told multiple outlets that James will not return to the Lakers for the 2026-27 season.

That has only added to the intrigue around his next move. With no announcement yet, the anniversary of The Decision arrived with another decision still hanging over the NBA.

For now, James seems content to let the speculation continue while he enjoys some time away from the noise.
