There have been two high-quality NHL players in this era with the last name Toews.
Jonathan Toews did his best work on the ice for the Chicago Blackhawks as a talented forward. And now Devon Toews is a key defenseman for the potent Colorado Avalanche.
Given the somewhat unique last name, and the matching pronunciation, you'd think they're related.
However, while they have a lot of overlap, the two Toews hockey players aren't as connected as it seems.

Is Devon Toews related to Jonathan Toews?
No, the two Toews NHL players aren't related.
They do have the same last name, said the same way.
They both hail from Canada, too, and have played for the national team plenty.
They aren't actually related, though.
Devon was born in Abbotsford, which is in British Columbia.
Jonathan was born elsewhere -- Winnipeg, in Manitoba.
Does Jonathan Toews have a brother?
For those still not convinced -- yes, Jonathan Toews has a brother. He's just not the NHL playing Devon Toews.
Jonathan's brother is David Toews. He was a draft pick of the New York Islanders in 2008.
David didn't stick around the NHL, though.
The two Toews in the league are the unrelated Jonathan and Devon.
