The primary focus for all stars in the league is the NBA Playoffs. They usually just shrug aside any concerns about the future and wait for negotiations during the offseason. Donovan Mitchell knows how anxiety-inducing that can be for both him and Cleveland Cavaliers fans. So, he gave an definite answer on his willingness to stay with the Cavs before the postseason started. A big factor was his fiancée, Coco Jones.

Mitchell would love to stay with Cavs

Usually, constraints involving contract figures and competitiveness in the NBA Playoffs surface when extensions are at the center of conversations. Donovan Mitchell does not seem to worry about these factors. The Cavs star loves the city and wants to stay so that they can compete for Larry O'Brien trophies in the long-run.

Mitchell explained why his choice of wanting to stay with the Cavs is the easiest decision of his career and how Coco Jones influenced it , via Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"I love Cleveland. I’ve said it before: I want to play here for as long as I can. And the goal is to win — as long as we’re continuing to win at the highest level. But I love it, man. It’s a place that I feel like I can call home, you know what I mean? And I feel good. My fiancée feels good about it," the Cavs superstar said.

Mitchell is currently under a three-year $150.3 million contract that he signed in 2024. If projections are correct, the Cavs will owe him a deal which can go up to $380 million and keep him there until 2030. Obviously, his willingness to stay there is just a half of the conversation. The Cavs front office will still have to determine the grounds of his contract and many factors will rely on their success in the coming NBA Playoffs.

But, one thing is certain — if it was only up to Mitchell, the Cavs would have a starting star guard for a long time.
