Horton knows who he will bring in to run the offense and so does Michael Bidwill. Horton is just being smart and not going public. The due diligence on all of these interviews for MB is to really make sure that the HC candidate can deliver the staff that he is preaching.

Talk is cheap, trying to figure out if the guy is going to be a good HC from an interview is tricky business.

Interviews are tricky things, Whiz sounded good at one time in an interview too, all candidates that are hired sounded good at the time, most turn out to be duds.

The interviewer is the most important part of the equation, it only comes with experience, it's more a feel than anything.

Alex Smith doesn't really fit Turner's offense. Turner is big on a vertical passing game, that's not exactly Smith's forte. That being said, he's still the best QB on the market so it's possible.

When they were together in 2006, Smith was pretty mediocre with 16 TDs and 16 INTs, a 58% completion percentage, and a 74.8 passer rating.

Is there somewhere Turner said he would only go to a place with a good QB in place? He went to Miami in 2002 when their QB was Jay Fiedler and to San Fran in 2006 when their QB was Alex Smith coming off his awful, awful, awful rookie year.

I think that's a function of the offense that Harbaugh was asking Alex Smith to run. We've seen in person that Alex Smith has the arm to throw the deep ball.

Alex Smith was terrible in 2005--his rookie season--and then immediately went back into the tank once Turner departed for San Diego. The narrative at the time was that Smith needs good tutoring that Mike Nolan's staff was unable to provide.
