Charlotte Hornets rookie Liam McNeeley neared a 30-point performance in the G League on Sunday, helping lead the Greensboro Swarm in a loss to the Maine Celtics.

McNeeley finished with 28 points, five assists and five rebounds in the 147-138 loss on the road at the Portland Expo Building. He went 11-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range, in 34 minutes, 42 seconds of action.

The 29th overall pick tallied 13 points in the fourth quarter alone to pace the group down the stretch. He had some nifty moves in the paint to get to the rim, while also finding success cutting on the court and mixing in a couple of 3-pointers.


McNeeley has played sporadically with the Hornets, averaging 4.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 27 games. The team has periodically assigned him to the Swarm to log extended playing time and work on various elements of his game on the court.

The 20-year-old McNeeley is averaging 21.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists on 46.4% shooting from the field with the Swarm. He is 25th in scoring average among players with at least 10 appearances in the G League this season.

McNeeley has played at a high level with the Swarm, showcasing his playmaking and scoring. The organization has liked the way he has performed and will continue to explore opportunities for him in the G League as part of his development plan.
