When Marquise Brown hit the open market, it didn't take long for speculation to connect him back to the Baltimore Ravens. Whether by media members or die-hard fans on X. Lines were drawn. Dots were connected. A reunion made sense on paper. There were familiar faces. One could mention unfinished business from his early years in the league, but in the end, the man affectionately known as "Hollywood” chose a different path, one that landed him with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brown was the 25th player taken during Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft. This is now his fourth franchise in what has morphed into a mini-journeyman career. His first three seasons were played in Baltimore.
He racked up 195 receptions there, notching 2,361 yards receiving and 21 touchdowns. For his seven-year career, he has earned 371 receptions, 4,322 yards receiving, and 33 trips to paydirt. The next step of his journey will lead him to the City of Brotherly Love. He explained during a recent visit to Speakeasy that Philadelphia was a better fit for him than exploring a Ravens reunion.
Philadelphia offers Brown an opportunity to step into a proven offense while still carving out a meaningful role. We're sure that Baltimore will always hold significance for Brown. Returning might have been comfortable, but comfort doesn't always equal growth. That seems to be what one of the newer Eagles wide receivers is looking for.
In the end, Brown's decision wasn't about closing a door on the Ravens. It was about opening a new one in Philadelphia, and if things go the way Brown envisions and the way every Eagles fan hopes, this next chapter could be one of the most productive of his career.
