NIXA–The Hillcrest Hornets boys basketball team is headed back to the Class 5 State Final Four for the first time since 2015, thanks to their 71-57 win over Helias Catholic in the State Quarterfinals, on Saturday.
Kyrese Simson was one of 3 Hornets in double figures and had the biggest smile in the team photo after the team’s impressive win. He was able to knock down shots from inside and outside the arc. He made an all-world layup, despite getting fouled, late in the fourth quarter that sent the crowd into an absolute frenzy.
Derrick Daily provided a much-needed basket for Hillcrest at the end of the first half. The freshman received a pass on the wing, pump faked a defender, then pulled-up just inside the arc and knocked down a jumper right before the buzzer sounded, which gave the Hornets a 32-28 edge at intermission.
Hillcrest will now face MICDS in the State Semifinals on Thursday, March 18 in Columbia at 8 p.m.
