Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur is answering questions from the media from the NFL Annual League Meeting in Phoenix on Monday. The session marks the first time LaFleur has spoken with the media since signing his new contract with the Packers, hiring Jonathan Gannon as defensive coordinator and replacing Rich Bisaccia as special teams coordinator.
Updates from LaFleur's sitdown with reporters:
LaFleur signed a multi-year contract extension with the Packers following the 2025 season.
The Packers will move to a base 3-4 front under Jonathan Gannon. LaFleur believes the transition will be an easy one after Green Bay played plenty of odd fronts in 2025.
It's difficult to believe Bisaccia, who spent four seasons in Green Bay and was the assistant head coach, did not have a direct conversation with LaFleur about his departure -- which came over a month after the season. The detail on Bisaccia providing a list of candidates is an interesting one. The Packers ended up hiring Cam Achord, who was on the list.
A focus on the finish is hardly a surprise given the way the Packers ended the 2025 season. Green Bay will hope the emphasis on finishing goes better than the emphasis on forced fumbles and takeaways last year.
An interesting admission here. Ensuring every player has a meaningful role they can embrace is such an important part of building a healthy locker room and winning culture.
Mike LaFleur was hired as the new head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. He'll be a first-year head coach in 2026. He is also expected to bring his team to Green Bay for a joint practice and preseason game in August.

Expecting easy transition to 3-4
Matt LaFleur does not expect much difficulty in transitioning to more 3-4 looks next season: "If you really look at it last year, I know on paper we were really 4-3, but we ended up getting into a lot of odd structures. ... So we played a lot of 3-4 principles."

Update on Bisaccia
Matt LaFleur says after Rich Bisaccia stepped down, Bisaccia gave him a list of names for next special teams coordinator and Cam Achord was on that list. LaFleur hasn’t had a direct convo with Bisaccia about why he left, but assumed he wanted to be closer to family.

Emphasis on finishing
LaFleur on finding ways to finish games: “That’s been on the forefront of my mind. It starts with a mentality, but it’s got to be in everything we do.”
Added that “there’s going to be a start and finish to every drill.” pic.twitter.com/NAVIzKKZdH

Unhappy players?
Matt LaFleur acknowledged some players were unhappy with their role last season. Wouldn't get into specifics, but said he and his staff need to do better jobs of making roles clear internally. Believes that had something to do with NFLPA report regarding respect for players.

On little brother joining the head coach ranks
Matt LaFleur says it's been "really cool" to have his brother, new Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur, here with him at NFL owners meetings. He says Mike LaFleur "earned" opportunity: "I want to help him. I want to kick his ass at the same time."
