BA on the chances of Jonathan Cooper starting next week: "None"
7:17 PM - 9 Nov 2014

-Mike Jurecki

I'm sorry but it's time to call this one. Jonathan Cooper DOA. If you think B.A isn't playing Cooper because he doesn't want to mess with the line your dead wrong he's not playing Cooper because Cooper just doesn't have it.

Still doubt it. Coop will start next season. If not, Then tag the bust label on him. However I doubt he hits the field this season unless he wally pips somebody.

Suh was lining up right where we've been having problems on the O-line, he was getting to the Miami QB all day. We have to protect Stanton and I don't care who does it.

Negative Ghost Rider. BA was quoted this past week saying that Cooper would be in there next season...he doesn't believe in screwing with the OL...that just because another player may be better physically, the OL needs to work as a unit and a newbie to the line may/will blow calls and blocks and cause more problems than they fix. When BA says something, I tend to believe him, as he isn't one to blow a ton of smoke.

Right he's intentionally not playing a more talented player because of continuity. No sorry you have a dominate player on the offensive line you play him.

It's time to put Cooper in period. I normally don't want to see any players get injured but one of our starting guards has to go. Cooper is our starting LG off the future and he needs to be in there starting the rest of the year.

With the way Fanaika was getting blown up yesterday it's hard to imagine Cooper not being able to step in and play better.

I guess BA is loyal to his guys, but if Stanton takes an shot that takes him out that could have been avoided then ....

Another change I'd like to see is Ted Ginn replacing Michael Floyd as a starting WR. Ginn has impressed me as a WR but not as a KR/PR, other than the Giant game. He's much faster than MF, and his 'hands' seem pretty good. We're not getting much from Floyd.

Love the sarcasm in this. Nice. Way to lay it on thick.

I didn't read a fake article...I saw it in one of the press conferences this past week.

So why not play the Cooper kid, the guard you drafted seventh overall in 2013?

Because I hate changing starters on the offensive line. My experience is it can make things worse. Communication gets screwed up and the guy with the ball gets hit.

Maybe for a week or two, but wouldn't you be better in the long run?

That week or two might make the difference between playing at home or on the road in the playoffs. He'll be in there next season.

The guards are most assuredly the weak link.
For yesterday's game.

Veldheer 2 pressures
Larsen 5 pressures
Sendlein 1 pressure
Fanaika 4 pressures
Massie 1 pressure

Arians and Keim are clearly not on the same page w/r/t Cooper:

Keim has suggested in recent comments that he thought Cooper could end up playing some, although that belief isn’t held by the coaching staff. And Keim said it’s up to the coaches.

“Anytime you are 8-1 there is a certain chemistry, and a lot of times coaches don’t want to mess with chemistry, which I certainly can’t argue with,” Keim said. “The other thing is, I’m the General Manager. It’s my job to add players to the roster, help pick the players. But I am always going to defer to the coaches when it comes to playing the players. It’s not my job to tell Bruce Arians or Harold Goodwin who to play from a personnel standpoint. That’s a decision those guys have to make, and if those guys think it’s in our best interests to play the two guards we currently have out there right now, that’s what I’m going to go with.”

Emphasis mine.

Not a big deal when you're 8-1, and Keim clearly understands who's best for the Cards (particularly after the Ryan Williams challenges last year).

yep

there is a little tension there it seems. Keim pretty regularly pimping Cooper in the media, BA pretty regularly shooting it down.

Keim wants his #7 overall pick to play. Arians doesnt want to add another variable to the offense.

Awful small sample size with which to judge Cooper. He needs to get on the field first, which I think will happen next season.

I'm withholding judgement until then. If he doesn't get on the field next season, or does and poops his pants, he's done.

Trust the coaches know what's happening--unless it has to do with guys so bad they can't get on the field. Then it's okay to "withhold judgement."

If Cooper doesn't get on the field, doesn't that say something about his quality as a player, or is this another Ryan Williams situation where the coaches are sitting a potential Pro Bowler for reasons that are mysterious but fine.
