Tickets for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will go on sale on April 9, but only for a select few who were chosen in a lottery system.
Summer Olympics tickets will release in a series of multiple drops with the first taking place from April 9 through April 19. Registration for the first drop closed on March 18.
Those who registered were notified between March 31 through April 7 if they were lucky enough to a time slot in the middle of April.
A time slot does not guarantee a purchase of a ticket, said the Olympics 2028 website.
While it is too late for the first series of tickets, fans can still score the chance to see games at the Olympics.
Fans should sign up to LA28 newsletter for information on when the next registration period will open.
There is no announcement from the Olympics website as of April 8 for the date of the next registration period.
Fans need to provide their first and last name, email and country of origin for preliminary information on the LA28 updates.
Once the registration period opens, people will have a chance to sign up. Registration closes and then fans will get an email on whether if they were selected for a time slot that gives them opportunity to purchase tickets.
Locals from Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, which will also host some Olympics events, had a chance to register for a pre-sale to buy tickets for the games.
The registration period and official local pre-sale closed. Similar to the general sale, fans from those specific cities registered but still needed to be selected for the opportunity to purchase tickets in the early window. The pre-sale purchasing period was from April 2 through April 6.
Fans took to social media to share their stories on the early access for Los Angeles natives. A Californian posted on TikTok her story on getting the tickets. She said events for gymnastics, tennis, diving and the cheapest seats were already sold out. The fan said she bought two tickets for one Judo, rugby and wrestling event which cost $1,800.
Another user who bought 2028 Olympics tickets suggested outlining your most desired events before joining the queue. A schedule of events with their dates and locations are on the 2028 Olympics website. She said in a TikTok post the cheaper tickets sell out quicker, which tend to be preliminary matches, and finals by contrast, are more expensive. A preliminary women’s gymnastics match range from $43 to $719 and prices for the finals range from $104 to $1,235.
The 2028 Summer Olympics is from July 14 until July 30.
