With an eventful and action-packed girls lacrosse regular season now behind us, attention immediately turns to the playoffs. For these athletes, the work put in throughout the offseason and even during other competitive sports seasons is in preparation for these games, for the chance at championships.
Section 1 released on Wednesday its brackets for the four-classification tournament, beginning with first round matchups on Friday and concluding with the finals in the first week of June. The top-seeded teams are Suffern (Class A), Nyack (Class B), Rye (Class C) and Pleasantville (Class D).
Suffern is following up a run to the Class A state final, Nyack won the Class C section title last season, Rye is looking to win its second championship since 2024, and Pleasantville hopes to build on the run it had last spring to the regional final. Yorktown, seeded third season year, is the defending Class B champ.
Those teams are the obvious favorites, each of which has been superb throughout the spring, but that seeding and their reputation offer no assurance as all the teams in their respective fields will be going all-out with a singular goal in mind.
