Calvary softball coach Tiffany Wood had a celebratory weekend that could be unmatched in years to come.

Her team helped her celebrate birthday No. 37 Saturday with a 12-2 win over D’Arbonne Woods in the semifinals of the LHSAA Select Division III championships.

Then on Sunday, the Lady Cavaliers (37-1) followed that up with a 5-1 win over Parkview Baptist for Wood’s 400th career win, her sixth consecutive state title and eighth overall.

“Winning six in a row and eight total feels amazing,” Wood said. “Seeing this senior class go out as state champions and seeing all they have worked for pay off is such a blessing. This group of girls, Team 22, works hard and works together.”

As usual, pitcher Kynzee Anderson, a Georgia signee, was a force of nature on the mound, striking out nine and allowing just three hits in seven innings of work. She also got some solid defensive play from junior Carlie Guile.

“Obviously, an amazing feeling,” said Guile, who won her fifth state title. “It truly never gets old. I fed off the energy of my team and worked hard to get to every ball that came in my direction.”

Guile, Jaycee Sledge and super sophomore Baylor Bockhaus had two hits apiece with Bockhaus drilling her 21st home run. Loren Sivils, Hallee Brooke Rinaudo and Reese Walker contributed hits.

“The game offered a great atmosphere with a great opponent in Parkview Baptist,” Wood said. “It took us a few innings to score, but with the depth of our lineup, we just wanted to keep putting pressure on them.”

Wood’s daughter, Rylann, who was in Sulphur for the championships, turned 7 years old April 27. She has never seen a state tournament that her mother’s team hasn’t won.
