May 21— Austin senior Cole Hebrink became the first Austin boys singles player to earn a spot in the state tournament since 1989 when he came through with a second place finish at the Section 1AA finals in Rochester Friday.
Hebrink, who was seeded No. 4, defeated top-seeded Thor Sviggum of Rochester Century 7-6 (6), 6-0 in the semifinals.
Hebrink had lost to Sviggum twice in the regular season.
Hebrink lost the championship match to Karthik Anad of Rochester Century by a score of 7-6(6), 6-2, but since Sviggum beat Faribault's Brandon Petricka, Hebrink advances to state.
