BASEBALL
>> Tanner Aoki (Mililani), Mississippi Valley State: Reached base safely all three times in his final game, a 14-4 loss to Prairie View. He finished with a batting average of .321 in 125 NCAA games with 66 walks and only 46 strikeouts.
>> Nuu Contrades (Saint Louis), Arizona State: Launched two solo home runs in a 5-3 loss to Houston and drove in a run on his first sacrifice fly of the season in an 8-3 win to take the series. The senior finished the regular season with 17 home runs and his presence in the No. 2 spot in the lineup helped leadoff hitter Landon Hairston tie the school record with his 27th home run.
>> Kaolu Holt (Kamehameha), Western Kentucky: Took over in the third inning of a 7-3 loss to Delaware and didn’t give up the ball, allowing two earned runs in six innings with seven strikeouts. He threw 109 pitches, his previous high in a game was 44 the week before and has lowered his earned run average to 5.70 from a high of 8.40 before he started being stretched out.
>> Lee Matsuzaki (Mid Pacific), Nevada: Hit his fourth home run of the season and 11th in his career but the Wolf Pack fell to Grand Canyon 9-3. He heads into the Mountain West Tournament with a .323 career batting average in 77 games, 25 with Nevada.
>> Blade Paragas (Kamehameha), BYU: Earned his first career victory in a 13-3 win over Utah Valley, giving up one run on three hits in two innings in his first collegiate start.
>> Wailele Kane-Yates (Kauai), Oral Roberts: Closed the season as the Summit League Player of the Week for the second time of his career, collecting nine hits and three homers in four games. Makani Tanaka (‘Iolani) also enjoyed the trip to Northern Colorado, mashing out seven hits and driving in five runs with two long shots in a 2-1 series win. The Golden Eagles won the league’s regular season title for the 21st time.
>> Nolan Souza (Punahou), Arkansas: Was the hero in a 5-4 win over Kentucky, ripping a double to left field to plate the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. He hit his third home run of the season in the ninth inning the next day, a 16-12 victory. It was the 14th home run of his career in 124 games.
>> Ethan Thomas (Mililani), Northern Kentucky: Drove in five runs last week, two in a 12-11 win over Elon and three more on a home run in an 8-7 loss to South Carolina Upstate. He heads into the Horizon League Tournament with a career batting average of .314 in 57 games but this season was his first as a regular.
DIVISION II BASEBALL
>> Jacob Ornelles (Punahou), Augustana South Dakota: Is going to a Super Regional against Central Missouri beginning on Wednesday but hasn’t played in a game since May 2.
DIVISION III BASEBALL
>> Ty Komoda (Kaiser), Whitworth: reached base five times on three hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch in a 15-10 win over Husson in a regional. He had seven hits in five games in the tournament but the Pirates were eliminated in a 19-12 loss to Endicott. He closes his career with a .253 batting average in 93 games and committed only two errors behind the plate, none this year.
>> Miles Quemuel-Labrador (Maryknoll), Washington University: Pitched 31⁄3 innings in two games of a regional and gave up one run, a solo shot, with five strikeouts as the Lions advanced to a Super Regional beginning Thursday. He is 11-5 in 57 appearances in his career with an ERA of 5.98 but only one earned run in his last six innings.
NAIA BASEBALL
>> Cade Kalehuawehe (Baldwin), Milligan (Tenn.): Swatted a home run in a 14-9 win over Faulkner (Ala.) in the NAIA first round, but went 0-for-3 in the next game as the Buffaloes were eliminated. The senior catcher caught 10 of the 22 baserunners who tried to steal against him and ends his college career with a .350 batting average and 16 home runs in 137 games.
>> Reid Madriaga (Mililani), Bellevue (Neb.): Pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only two hits but the Bruins lost 3-1 to Indiana-Southeast in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament. He was 6-1 in nine starts this season with a 4.07 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 592⁄3 innings with 22 walks.
>> Elliot Veisauyadra (Kealakehe), Missouri Baptist: Stranded a runner in the eighth and and a scoreless frame in the ninth but the Spartans fell 8-4 to Cumberlands in an NAIA Regional to end his senior season. He pitched 131⁄3 innings this season but allowed only two earned runs. He won two games and saved one.
WOMEN’S GOLF
>> Leia Chung (Leilehua), Boise State: Finished her junior season short with 24th place at the Stanford Regional, the best finish in program history. She shot rounds of 72, 74 and 71 with seven birdies. Her season scoring average of 72.24 is the second best in program history and her career mark of 72.88 tops that list.
>> Raya Nakao (Punahou), Oregon State: Took 10th place at the Stanford Regional to help the Beavers advance to this week’s NCAA Championships, her fifth top-10 finish this season. Kate Nakaoka (Mililani) was two strokes behind her in 14th place, tying Nakao with nine birdies and her 11th round in red figures. Oregon State took third as a team and qualified for nationals for the third time in four years.
NCAA DIVISION I SOFTBALL
>> Ailana Agbayani (‘Iolani), Oklahoma: Hit a home run in an NCAA Regional to beat Michigan 8-1 and send the Sooners to a Super Regional for the 16th straight year, the longest streak in the nation. She paired hits twice in the tournament after not doing so all month and raised her season batting average to .386 with her 100th hit with the Sooners and 239th in her career. Oklahoma begins the Super Regional at home on Friday against Mississippi State.
>> Cairah Curran (Campbell), Santa Clara: Closed her junior season with second-team All-West Coast Conference honors, her third straight season on a conference team. She hit .347 from the leadoff spot in all 51 of the team’s games and was top 10 in the conference in hits (59), runs (34), triples (4), stolen bases (28) and double plays turned (17). She needs seven runs scored, 16 hits, five triples and six stolen bases to take the top spot in school history in each of those categories.
>> Jackie Kirkpatrick (Mililani), Tennessee: Hasn’t played since the beginning of April but is along for the ride as the Volunteers host Georgia in a Super Regional after beating Virginia 5-1. She has been a backup catcher her entire career but has seen the field in 63 games but not in her team’s two Women’s College World Series appearances.
>> Colby McClinton (Kamehameha), Cal State Fullerton: Scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and had three hits and a walk in a 3-2 regional victory over Cal Baptist but the Titans were eliminated by South Carolina later in the day. She finished her senior season with a .406 batting average and .703 slugging percentage. He played 151 games in her career with a .372 average, which is fifth in school history, 14 home runs and 31 stolen bases.
>> Jenna Sniffen (Maryknoll), Arizona: Blasted a three-run home run to end a 10-1 win over Duke in the fifth inning of a regional, but she went 1-for-5 the next day and the Blue Devils eliminated the Wildcats. She has been consistent with a .295/.371/.500 slash line as a freshman and .300/.369/.500 as a sophomore. Kez Lucas (Kamehameha) was hitless in six at bats in the tournament and finished her freshman campaign with a .267 average in 39 games.
NCAA DIVISION II SOFTBALL
>> Kennadie Tsue (‘Iolani), Biola: Stroked her third triple of the season in a 3-2 win over Cal State East Bay to punch her ticket to an NCAA Super Regional against Cal State San Marcos beginning Thursday. The junior is hitting a career-high .286 in 62 games this year with all three of her home runs. She is a .271 hitter in her 168-game career.
NCAA DIVISION III SOFTBALL
>> Natalie Ching (‘Iolani), Case Western Reserve: Delivered a walk-off single with two strikes and two outs in a 9-8 win over Swarthmore and drove in two more to send the Spartans into a Super Regional against Virginia Wesleyan beginning Thursday. She was named to the all-tournament team and is hitting .278 in 42 games in her freshman year.
NAIA SOFTBALL
>> Puakea Milbourne (Kapolei), Oregon Tech: Drove in a run in a 4-0 win over Dickinson State in the NAIA first round and added a hit and an RBI in two losses to Our Lady of the Lake to end the senior’s season. She finishes with a .349 average over 233 games with 31 home runs and 203 RBIs. She is third in program history in RBIs and the first baseman has been involved in 72 double plays, 25 more than anyone else.
MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Shane Kawakami-Williams (Hawaii Baptist), Occidental: Helped his 4×100 team to first place in the Redlands Final Qualifier, beating Pomona-Pitzer by two hundredths of a second with a time of 41.31 seconds. The junior is expected to run the 100, 200 and both relays at next week’s NCAA Championships.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Charli Kennedy (Le Jardin), Cal Poly: Matched her personal best with a high jump of 5 feet, 8.75 inches to take third place and earn all-Big West honors as a true freshman. She went five inches higher than she did two weeks prior to lock in a top-three finish but missed all three shots at 5-10 to allow Hawaii senior Lilian Turban to pass her on her last attempt.
>> Tatum Moku (Kamehameha), Grand Canyon: Stepped up when it mattered, clearing 14 feet, 41⁄2 inches to win the pole vault in the Mountain West Championships, breaking the school record. She has won two meets in a row after not reaching the top step of the podium since December. She won the Pac-12 last year with Washington State.
>> Elle Rimando (Mililani), Mount Holyoke: Wrapped up her stellar career at MIT Final Qualifier, finishing second in the long jump at 17-1.25 and sixth in the triple jump at 36-1.5 but didn’t advance to the NCAA Championships. She holds the program’s record in the triple jump and is second in the long jump and her exploits in volleyball and track and field made her the school’s athlete of the year for all four of her years.
