It's been an incredibly peculiar and concerning offseason for the New York Jets. There's no way around that.

New York head coach Aaron Glenn's decision-making process has mirrored that of a head coach scrambling to help salvage his job security. The happenings at offensive and defensive coordinator bring Glenn's ability to successfully coach the Jets into question.

Let's begin with the offensive coordinator fiasco. It was swiftly reported by various sources at the end of the season that Glenn possessed interest in hiring a veteran play caller to oversee the offense in 2026.

The initial word was that offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand would remain on staff with a shifting of responsibility.

That's not what happened. After meeting with Engstrand, Glenn and he agreed to go their separate ways.

The Green and White have now rushed to interview five offensive coordinator candidates, way after the rest of the league had already begun filling their 2026 staff. Lucky for Glenn, he's allegedly after Frank Reich, who wasn't a candidate anywhere else (you decide if that's good or bad).

The occurrence at defensive coordinator is no better. The Jets interviewed eight initial candidates with the belief that veteran play-caller Don "Wink" Martindale would emerge as the favorite. Martindale believed this opportunity to come with play-calling duties.

According to Connor J. Hughes, Glenn changed his mind and decided to take on play-calling responsibility for 2026. That led to a breakdown in discussions with candidates. The Jets have since hired Brian Duker as DC. Duker was not among the initial eight interviews.

Duker worked with Glenn in Detroit. He's never held a title higher than position coach or pass game coordinator.

Glenn's erratic decision making is concerning heading into 2026. The pressure will be on.
