Ireland's Padraig Harrington has won the US Senior Open for a record-equalling third time at Scioto Country Club.

Harrington joins Miller Barber as the only player to win the senior major for a third time as he added to his 2022 and 2025 triumphs.

The 54-year-old won by four strokes ahead of home favourite Stewart Cink, who held a one-shot advantage heading into the final round.

However Harrington shot four under over the final 18 holes to end the competition on 12 under par, while Cink faded over the closing round.

England's Ian Poulter was fourth, seven shots off Harrington, while Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke was tied for eighth on three under for the tournament.

"When I came out here four years ago I was surprised how big a tournament it was, it's like playing an old major," Harrington told the USGA after his win.

"It's very rare for me to win a tournament where it is actually boring coming down the stretch, normally there is some drama but there wasn't much excitement today, which is nice for me."

It is Harrington's fourth senior major after he won the Senior Open Championship last year, as well as his treble of US Senior Open titles.

Harrington won the Open Championship in 2007 and 2008, the same year he also won the PGA Championship.
