Former college star Hailey Van Lith came into the WNBA with high expectations after a prolific college career. However, it’s safe to say that her WNBA career is not starting the way that she would have hoped.
Last year, Van Lith was selected by the Chicago Sky with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. However, things did not work out as she lasted just one season in the Windy City before she was waived by the team during the offseason.
Van Lith was quickly picked up by the Connecticut Sun earlier this month where she’s played in nine games for the team, starting three of them. However, her time with the team has already come to an end as she has now been cut from a WNBA roster for the second time in the span of a month.
The team announced on Thursday afteroon that Van Lith had been waived to make room for guard Leïla Lacan, who is expected to make her season debut Saturday.
“The Connecticut Sun has activated Leïla Lacan,” the team wrote in a post on X. “In a corresponding move, Hailey Van Lith has been waived.”
Lacan is returning to the WNBA after playing in the 2026 La Boulangère Wonderligue, where she won a championship and was named the Finals MVP.
We’ll have to see what’s next for Van Lith after this latest disappointing turn of events.
