Erling Haaland scored a late brace as Norway stunned record winners Brazil 2-1 on Sunday to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Ørjan Nyland saved a tame penalty from Bruno Guimaraes in the 14th minute before Haaland, who had a quiet afternoon until then, rose to give the Scandivanians a 79th minute lead and then fired the second from a distance in the 90th.

Veteran star Neymar pulled one back in the 10th minute of stoppage time but it was too late as Brazil went out as early as in the last 16 for the first time since 1990. Their last title was in 2002.

Norway maintained their astonishing unbeaten record against Brazil with their third victory, to go with two draws.

Haaland raised his tournament tally to seven goals, drawing level at the top of the scorer charts with Argentina's Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé of France.

In their first ever World Cup quarter-final, Norway will face either co-hosts Mexico or England, who play their last 16 match later on Sunday.
