Gujarat Titans poor on the field as Finn Allen takes KKR to 247

Gujarat Titans arrived at Eden Gardens riding the crest of five back-to-back victories, needing just one more win to mathematically seal their playoff place in IPL 2026.

But what followed was one of the most damaging evenings of dropped chances in recent IPL memory.

Four catches went to ground, and Kolkata Knight Riders made every single one of them count, posting a staggering 247 for 2.

Finn Allen, on 14, miscued an aggressive shot against Mohammed Siraj in the third over, and the chance was put down by Jason Holder.

A far more costly moment came in the seventh over when Siraj himself dropped Allen at long-on from a much more straightforward opportunity.

What followed was a batting masterclass laced with brutality. Allen, now given a second and third life, cut loose against everything Gujarat threw at him. He brought up his half-century off just 21 deliveries and then kept accelerating, treating Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore, Arshad Khan and Jason Holder with equal disregard.

If Allen was the headline act, Cameron Green was the supporting player who twisted the knife further. The Australian all-rounder, who commanded a price tag of ₹25.20 crore at the auction, was handed a gift when Arshad Khan spilled a catch in the deep.

Even in the death overs, another opportunity went begging in the field, when Washington Sundar dropped Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who scored a sensational 82 runs off 44 balls.

The Cricket News Opinion: GT must improve their fielding to keep title aspirations on track

Four dropped catches are not simply poor execution; it reflects something deeper about concentration and pressure management.

For KKR, who needed every run they could get, this was a gift they could not have asked for more generously. Gujarat will bounce back, they are too good a side not to, but this performance leaves a question mark that will take more than one clean night in the field to erase.

They are most likely to qualify for the playoffs, but they must be more clinical if they want to keep their title aspirations on track.
