ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — For the second time in 11 days the Guilford Vikings have defeated the Auburn Knights. The first time was at Rock Valley College in the ‘Rumble in the Rock.’ The second time was Wednesday night at Auburn. The Vikings took this one 76-70.
The Vikings jumped out to a 12-6 lead after the first quarter and led the rest of the way. The Vikings dominated the boards once again outrebounding the smaller Knights 42-29. Guilford had balanced effort with seven players scoring six points or more.
Senior guard Branden Chatman topped the Viking with 19 points. Cordell Spencer and Keysan Taylor each scored 11 points. Taylor also grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists. Jordan Lopez also had a strong game. He scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Amir Danforth led Auburn in scoring with 16 points. He also had six assists and five rebounds. Mikwan Marshall scored 15 points. Dairan Royal added 10 points. Champ Parker and royal Whitmore each scored nine.
Guilford improves to 9-1 in NIC-10 play. The Vikings are one game ahead of Auburn and Hononegah which are both 8-2.
