Chris Columbus? Could work. I want it to be a legit sequel though. NOT A REMAKE.

Here's a brain buster, has Spielberg EVER produced a straight up remake of a film he previously produced?
"Straight Up". Not that I am aware of. However, Hollywood loves to do "soft remakes" that lack anything new. I love Chris Columbus so that's why I have some hope.

Nope, but he refused to let others remake his, while he remade others.

He "remade" a 1943 lesser-known movie (Always) and then remade a stage musical (West Side Story). Hardly qualifies as "remakes" in this day and age. Might as well say he remade Peter Pan too.

I think West Side Story def qualifies as a straight up remake.

I thought it was freaking great and have no issues with him remaking it, but seems to qualify as a remake as much as any other remake in this day and age, if not more considering how faithful it was to the source material for the most part.

Hook was basically a sequel. Just listened to a podcast about it and how Spielberg always wanted to make Peter Pan during the 80’s and how Hook was almost a musical and had 8-10 songs written and ready in prep but scratched right before production started.
