BASEBALL​

WIAA sectionals​

Division 1​

Kaukauna 6, Bay Port 3​


KIMBERLY - The Ghosts advanced to the state tournament for the first time since 1954 with the win over the Pirates in the sectional championship game at Sunset Park.

Kaukauna (21-7-1) took a 2-0 lead in its half of the first inning on a Bennett Geitner infield single and throwing error that allowed Kaden Kress to score. Bryce Urban followed with a run-scoring single to center.

Bay Port got one run back in its half of the first on a lead-off home run by Eli Hart.

Back-to-back doubles by Bron Schaefer and Kress in the third inning made it 3-1.

Kaukauna added two runs in the fourth on a Blake Vandeloo double and a run-scoring single by Schaefer.

Bay Port made it 5-3 in the sixth inning on a run-scoring single by Cayden Heier and a balk.

Kaukauna added its sixth run with a run-scoring ground out in the seventh inning.

Schaefer started for the Ghosts and pitched the first six innings to get the win with Geitner closing out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

Carson Hawley started and took the loss for Bay Port, which ends its season with a record of 24-4.

Bay Port 3, West De Pere 2​


KIMBERLY - The Pirates’ Ethan Orlando singled, Parker Broehm doubled, Eli Hart drew a walk and Tommy Berg singled to score two runs in the seventh inning in Bay Port’s come-from-behind win over the Phantoms in the sectional semifinal.

Bay Port’s first run came in the fourth inning on Carson Hawley’s home run.

Ethan Collar scored the tying run in the fifth inning when he reached on an error and eventually came around to score for West De Pere.

West De Pere went ahead 2-1 when Caleb Scheller reached on an error and came around to score on a single by Sammy Berg and a double by Isaac Habetler.

Parker Lawson pitched the first 6⅔ innings for Bay Port with Broehm getting the final out and the win.

West De Pere finishes with an 18-11 record.

Division 3​

Marathon 2, Kewaunee 1​


CRIVITZ - The Red Raiders scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game 1-1, then scored in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win over the Storm to earn Marathon a trip to state.

Blake Underwood pitched a complete game and held the Storm to three hits and an unearned run. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Jackson Walecka pitched 6⅔ innings for Kewaunee. He gave up six hits, was charged with two runs and struck out four.

Quillan Kunkel had two hits and an RBI for Marathon, including a double with two outs in the seventh inning to score the winning run. True Thurs also drove in a run.

Brett Paulsen, Waylon Delain and Blake Temme had hits for Kewaunee. Paulsen drove in the only run with a single in the third inning.

Kewaunee finished its season with a 28-1 record.

Kewaunee 5, Brillion 4​


CRIVITZ - The Storm scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a walk-off win over the Lions in the sectional semifinal.

Brillion scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead, then Kewaunee scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. Brillion scored twice in the top of the seventh for a 4-1 lead before Kewaunee rallied in the bottom of the seventh.

The first six batters for Kewaunee reached in the seventh inning with a walk, a hit, an error and then three straight hits to end the game, including the game-winning two-run double by Dane Harrell.

Waylon Delain and Diesel Bosdeck each had two hits and an RBI for Kewaunee. Harrell drove in two runs.

Hayden Cousin had two hits and an RBI for Brillion. Chase Braun had a hit and an RBI.

Brett Paulsen pitched five innings for Kewaunee. He allowed two hits, two runs, walked four and struck out nine. Delain pitched two innings, allowed two hits, two runs and walked two.

Joseph Shimek pitched six innings for Brillion. He allowed two hits, an unearned run, walked two and struck out six.

Division 4​

Rib Lake 7, Gibraltar/Washington Island 4​


ROSHOLT - The Redmen advanced to the sectional final with the victory over the Vikings.

Rib Lake went on to lose in the sectional championship game against Columbus Catholic, with a 15-5 final in six innings.
