The Great Bay Figure Skating Club marked a milestone Saturday, hosting its first-ever Compete U.S.A.-sanctioned figure skating competition.

The event featured skaters ranging in age from 6 to 58. Among them were 20 Great Bay Figure Skating Club members competing on home ice.

A competition for all skill levels

Skaters competed in one to four events, choosing from formats such as compulsory elements, spin challenges, jump challenges and freestyle programs skated to music. The event was open to all current members in good standing of Learn to Skate USA and U.S. Figure Skating, including Aspire, with levels ranging from Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills through Preliminary, Adult and Athlete Development tracks.

The competition was designed to bring competitive opportunities to skaters at the grassroots level, giving athletes a chance to showcase their skills, receive feedback and build competitive spirit in a supportive setting.

A community effort

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Great Bay Figure Skating Club relies on the generosity of its members and community to make events like the Spring Fling possible. The club extended its thanks to donors including Hannaford, Shaw’s, Target, La Festa, Dunkin’, Panera Bread and Aldrnari Bakery.

Volunteers also played a key role in making the event run smoothly, from registration and hospitality to judging coordination and awards.

The Great Bay Figure Skating Club looks forward to making the Spring Fling an annual tradition on the regional skating calendar. Information about the club’s programs and upcoming events can be found at greatbayfigureskating.org.
