I don't remember hearing or reading any of the things mentioned about Bettcher when he took over the defense. Did I completely miss it somehow, or was none of this mentioned by the Cards writers at the time? If not, why the hell not?

I loved this line. It made me think of Whiz.

"We just said, 'Let's do what he does best,'" Arians said. "We changed. To me, that's coaching. You don't say, 'Here's our system, go learn it.' You say, 'What can this cat help us with?'"

But, but...the system works?

The Bleacher Report got bought by someone (I think) and have poured a ton of resources into developing out a strong stable of writers (Dan Pompei used to work for NFL.com, I think) outside of their fan-specific channels.

I don't stop there, but I get referred there all the time.

To do what Arians does you need a ton of capable people.

Think about it.

Whiz had the easy idea, build a system and fit people in that which is a ton easier than building something flexible that can adapt because you have to know so much more about football to know what goes with what.

Arians can pretty much do this out of his head but that's only because he's been around so long and has seen so much plus he has a ton of experienced assistants who are the same way.

You take a newer younger staff there is no way they're going to be able to work in their heads that much to see if an idea is good or bad that far out of the box all the time.

Superb portrayal of BA. The part about giving James Bettcher a chance to call defensive plays in practice against the first team offense when Bettcher was just the OLB coach---priceless. The the part about building back up Smoke's confidence---priceless. BA does have the rare gift---as Daryl Drake said so aptly---of seeing ahead and being ahead of the game 1 or 2 plays. That's what all the best coaches have in common---yes, they coach like crazy in the moment---but they also can stay one or two plays ahead of the game. That kind of coaching is an art.

How can you not like playing for a guy like BA. I think all of us here would run through a brick wall for him.

There was a link on that page to the "Most Disliked NFL Players" but doesn't have a date on it.

Carson Palmer

Oakland Raiders
Pct. Dislike: 31%
Highly touted in college like Young, though with some early success. But Palmer ran into injury and attitude problems in Cincinnati, alienating teammates and developing a prima donna reputation. The Bengals did well to get a pair of draft picks from Oakland for Palmer, who hadn’t been playing through this season’s first seven weeks.

Saw a quote from Palmer (maybe one of Urban's articles), that said when the time is right, he'll tell his side of the Cincy story.

Yeah. I think I heard that during the week of the cinci game. After watching him up close in the last couple years I am dying to hear his side.

This was sent from my cell pjone so please excise any typeos or other errors.

I'm not a fan of players trying to force trades or alter which team drafts them but then and even more so now I didn't blame Carson for wanting out of Cinci.

Even though they have become a very talented team they still have too many idiots in that organization.

A thought just jumped into my head, how many players have tried to alter which team drafted them or force a trade? Only Elway, Eli and Carson jump to mind, I'm sure I'm forgetting some but the above are all QB's and have SB rings except Carson and now it's his turn. :)

Yep, over 40 years now and for some reason keep forgetting about Namath. Maybe just suppressing the pain of what could have been.
