Jun. 2—Dayton Flyers head coach Anthony Grant guided Team USA to an 88-58 victory against Argentina on Monday, June 1, in its opening game at the 2026 FIBA U18 Men's AmeriCup in León, Mexico.
This was Grant's first game as a head coach with Team USA. He served as an assistant coach for the U18 team in 2008 and 2018.
The United States took control of the game with an 18-4 run to end the first half.
"Basketball is going to be a game of runs," Grant said in a story on USA Basketball's website. "Argentina's a good team, they've got good players. I felt like this was a great teaching lesson for our guys, in terms of being able to keep our foot on the gas and not let up."
On Tuesday, June 2, Grant's team plays Mexico at 10 p.m. The United States is 5-0 against Mexico.
At 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, the Americans play Brazil, which is 0-12 against the United States.
Brazil beat Mexico 103-70 on Monday.
If the United States advances out of the group stage, it will play in the semifinals on June 6. The medal round follows on June 7. All games will stream live on YouTube.com/FIBA.
In the opener, Quentin Coleman, a University of Illinois recruit who ranks 26th in the 2026 class, according to ESPN, had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
"His energy was contagious today," Grant said. "He impacted the game on both sides of the ball, did a great job defensively being active, and offensively I thought he found his spots."
Center Darius Wabbington and guard Adan Diggs, the No. 16 and the fifth-ranked recruits in the 2027 class, each scored 12.
