Let's hand out our grade for the Indianapolis Colts' selection of Tyler Warren at 14th overall.
When it comes to grading this one, it's an easy thing to do. The first round couldn't have really played out any better for the Colts. At their biggest position of need, they landed who many considered the top tight end in this year's class.
Warren finished the 2024 season as one of the top receiving tight ends in the country--an obvious element that the Colts need after their entire tight end room in 2024 totaled just 467 yards through the air.
Warren hauled in over 100 receptions and totaled over 1,200 yards. His greatest impact in the passing game came over the middle of the field and on intermediate routes, which is exactly where GM Chris Ballard mentioned in his pre-draft press conference that a greater impact was needed.
But in addition to that ability in the passing game, Warren is also versatile, able to line up across the formation--including out of the backfield--and he's a very capable run-blocker.
When an offense has that do-it-all presence, some unknown is added to it because defense can't as easily get a beat pre-snap on what's coming. That then not only creates opportunities for Warren, but for his teammates as well.
This was an ideal pick for the Colts, and like I said, played out excellently for them, given the hole that they had on their roster.
