NORMAN — Oklahoma softball won't have to wait another year for Wagoner catcher Goose Hutchens' arrival.
The No. 1 overall recruit in D1Softball's 2027 recruiting rankings is reclassifying to the 2026 class and will join the Sooners this fall, the school announced Thursday.
Hutchens, a junior last season, primarily played catcher and third base. As a sophomore, she tied the state record for home runs.
"I always trust God's timing," Hutchens said in a release. "I am so excited for this new step in life."
She competed in travel ball for the Iowa Premier 18U National-Dickel team. She was a member of the Oklahoma squad which won the 2021 Little League Softball World Series.
As a member of USA Softball’s U-18 national team at the World Cup, she won a gold medal while hitting .800 and being named tournament MVP.
Hutchens committed to OU last September over Arkansas, Texas, Texas Tech and UCLA.
The early arrival gives coach Patty Gasso flexibility at catcher with Hutchens and star Kendall Wells.
Gasso reacted to Hutchens' reclassification this morning on X.
