Fresno City College's beach volleyball team knows what it takes to be at the top.

The Rams haven't lost a single match this season and are the number one team in the state.

"Right now, we're a lot more hungry coming towards the end," says Jayla Iversen.

They've come up one win short the last two seasons.

Yosemite High grad Lusa Andrews was part of that runner-up pair.

"I remember being super nervous last year going into it but this year, I feel very confident, very secure and I think when we get there, I'll be calm and ready based on my experience last year," she said.

Veteran sophomores like Lusa, with the addition of upperclassmen from Fresno Pacific, has created a team that has yet to be stopped.

"When you have teams that can be senior lead or sophomore led, you're going to have a really good season," says coach Kieran Roblee.

In addition to a 14-0 Coast Conference record, FCC has gone 70-0 in pairs this year.

From FCC's first beach season just seven years ago, the Rams have quickly set the standard.

"Say we don't get that dig, say we shank a pass, how do we reset from that," Iversen said. "That's been a big theme, and I think all of us have been working at it and having partners that push you to get through those tough points has been crucial to our success."

The Rams are looking towards NorCal regionals at the end of the month, hoping to reach the state final in May.
