Jun. 15—The top five of Gary Parrish's most recent for CBS Sports features Florida, Duke, Michigan, Illinois and Connecticut in the top five. Count the long-time columnist and radio host as another believer in Brad Underwood and the Illinois.
"It looks like Brad has, undeniably, created a team that's got Final Four potential again," Parrish said on a recent appearance on News-Gazette Radio. "Realistic national championship aspirations. I've got Illinois fourth, and, honestly, if somebody said it's three spots too low I could understand where they're coming from. This is going to be one of the best teams in the country once again.
"The core of that team, I think, is pretty well known and pretty well established. Whether it's (Andrej) Stojakovic, (David) Mirkovic, it's going to be a lot of familiar names. Some places around the country you look up and it's a familiar brand, familiar coach, but the roster looks very different. At Illinois, because of player retention and the way Brad has really built that thing, Illini fans are going to have something a lot of college sports fans aren't used to these days and that's some real familiarity with the players they're watching play."
