When the crowds march into the three-day Hondo Rodeo Fest in New Orleans, Gonzales native and five-time Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Champion steer wrestler Tyler Waguespack will be in that number.
The East Ascension High School graduate will be among the competitors participating in the event, which has been set for April 10-12 at the Caesars Superdome.
Waguespack joined the PRCA in 2012 and has earned more than $2 million in career winnings as he has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo more than ten times.
His world titles were won in 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023, along with two NFR Average championships.
The New Orleans event will combine the professional rodeo competition with live concerts and a free outdoors festival.
The rodeo events will include steer wrestling, bull riding, barrel racing and team roping.
The live music schedule includes:
The outdoor festival, which will feature live music and vendors, will be all three days from noon to 6 p.m. in Champions Square.
Later this year, Hondo Rodeo Fest will return for its third year at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona from Nov. 13-15.
