As part of the fun surrounding our 50th anniversary, Golfweek has been walking down Memory Lane with a number of former employees who helped make the brand what it is today.

We continue the series with a longtime editor and writer who now works for the PGA Tour, Sean Martin.

When did you work at Golfweek?

1988-2018

What was your Golfweek title, and give us a brief description of what you did.

Assistant editor/Staff writer. Like many, I started at Golfweek as an assistant editor. I helped compile scores for the Scoreboard pages, edited and posted copy for the website and covered junior/amateur golf. That role was such a great steppingstone for so many. I was made a staff writer a few years later, covering everything from amateur golf to the PGA Tour. I covered tournaments on four continents: Asia (inaugural Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship), South America (World Amateur Team Championship), Europe (The Open) and North America.

What's your current title and company?

Senior manager, Content Development at the PGA Tour.

What's the one moment you're proudest of while working with Golfweek?

I'm going to cheat a little. I don't know that it was one moment. It was just the consistent week-in, week-out depth of coverage. From breaking news to well-written columns, we treated every beat like it was the PGA Tour. I think we especially prided ourselves on breaking news across beats, from the college commitments of star junior players (I still have emails from Jordan Spieth's dad buried in my inbox) to the latest happenings on Tour. If you loved golf, especially competitive golf, there was nowhere else you could get the information that Golfweek provided, and that was something we all prided ourselves on.

What's the 'hair-on-fire' moment you remember most vividly?

Honestly, it was probably informing Jeff Babineau that I had accepted a job at the PGA Tour. I knew I was going to get an earful, and I did, but I later realized it was because he respected my work and didn't want to lose me. It ended up meaning a lot and spoke to Babs' loyalty and also his competitive desire to make Golfweek the best it could be.

What's your favorite golf course you've played and why?

Seminole Golf Club. The whole experience from the moment you set foot on the property is incredible. I have a trip scheduled this year, though, that may force me to change my answer the next time I get this question.

(Editor's note: We appreciate all the former employees who have contributed time and effort to this feature. The golf journalism community is a small one and we're proud of the achievements of all our former colleagues.)
