Two out of three ain't bad, for Golden Tempo, jockey Jose Ortiz and trainer Cherie DeVaux.
The Kentucky Derby winner staged another classic run from last on Saturday to win the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. Golden Tempo skipped the Preakness Stakes after winning the Run for the Roses and joined 2025 Derby-Belmont winner Sovereignty in winning two legs of the Triple Crown while skipping the middle one.
DeVaux becomes the first female trainer to win two legs of the Triple Crown in one year and joins Jenna Antonucci, who trained Arcangelo to victory in the 2023 Belmont.
Florida Derby winner Commandment finished second, Renegade, the Derby runnerup, was third, and Chief Wallabee duplicated his fourth-place finish in the Run for the Roses in the Belmont.
Golden Tempo, who was 23-1 in his Derby win, returned $14 to win, $7.32 to place and $3.88 to show.
Commandment paid $7.02 to place and $4.08 to show.
Renegade, the Belmont race favorite, paid $2.52 to show.
