Apr. 17—BEMIDJI — Minnesota Crookston's batters had quite the day in Bemidji.
The Golden Eagles took on the Bemidji State baseball team in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, scoring a combined 31 runs through both games to comfortably sweep the series.
In game one, UMC captured a 24-2 lead through the first four innings and gave up just one run in the final three, securing a 24-3 victory.
Game two was much closer. Bemidji State started off much stronger, grabbing a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Noah Drusch cracked a two RBI double to right field, followed up by a single from Matt Filippi that sent Drusch home.
The Golden Eagles' batters finally caught fire in the fifth inning. Minnesota Crookston scored five runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Americo Sculati. UMC tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the eighth for a 7-3 advantage.
Dylan Hedley mashed a home run to left field to chip away at the lead, but it was the last time the Beavers would find the scoresheet as the Golden Eagles held on for a 7-4 win.
