Yeah, that coach speak was great and everything, but once free agency started, it was getting obvious. At least it is confirmed now.

I would assume the defensive tackles are Pierre and Peters.

Jones
Peters
Pierre
Golden

Very concerning that the linebacking group is starting out with:

WILB: Bucannon
MILB: Bynes
SILB: Reddick

While I think this will help Bucannon a lot, I am very concerned about the reliance on Bynes and Reddick at those two key positions.

I should add I like Josh Bynes, but as the MILB in a 4-3 ? That is a position of ultimate importance in this defense.

Reddick? Well, I am trying to be a good fan about that one, and give him time. #malikhooker

Gotta get a 3rd rusher in the first three rounds as a rotational guy and a hedge against Golden's failure. That's one reason I was surprised they let Mauro go — he was solid as a rush end in that over front.

Gunter and Nkimdeche should be a nice rotation in the middle.

It might be a 4-3 base but pretty much everybody plays some type of hybrid.

I'm not looking forward to this season ugh

Wonder if we're going to go a complete 180 and tab somebody like Vander Esch or Roquan Smith in the first. Get Wilks his Keuchly.

Not sure why the team would announce this before the draft, telegraphing their need / interest in certain players or types of players.

...dbs

This goes back to this organization always being pretty transparent with the media/fans about their intentions. Good or bad.

Interesting,

Front four: Golden, Pierre, Peters, Jones
With Nkimdeche, Gunter as rotations isn’t bad. At least on paper.

With Reddick, Bynes, Buc at backers, we will need to draft a couple more. But they have potential and lots of speed.

you may have a point. Thats why they are keeping Buc at a high cost. Hope they just sign him to long deal now

I think we restructure him and bring his numbers down a lot either way.

In a 3-4, the DL is supposed to occupy linemen and the LBs stop the run. In a 4-3, the line and MLB are more of the run defense and the OLBs are more of coverage and outside contain.

Buc and Reddick are those type of players more so than run stuffers.

Not happy that every time there's a regime change - instead of building on our strengths, we blow up everything and start over at zero.

That's no way to build a franchise.

That happens to almost every franchise. Our team was quietly but almost entirely revamped by season 2 with Arians.

Honestly though, this makes me even less confident about this season. A bunch of guys playing out of position. Chandler's played there before and has done well of course, but he'll need to add bulk again. Golden? Not designed to be down. In fact, I'd say Reddick should play his position, but that's frustrating, given that we drafted him to be a 3-4 ILB. Bynes as our starting MLB? Count me very skeptical, since he was undrafted and finds himself on his third team. Not that he isn't a solid role player, but relying on him concerns me. So does the depth at tackle, although I can see Nkemdiche or Pierre thriving at under like Dockett before them.

I just don't know where these pieces plug in.

All of that said, I think we're looking to crash and burn this year, only to rise drastically in 2019.

Unless something drastic happens, I don't see us rising drastically in 2019.

I'm predicting a top 5 pick with a roster that Wilks has a grasp on, and a ton of money to spend to get guys to fit his system.

We still have some great talent on this team, it's just in patches. If we keep our picks and draft halfway well, I see it working out.
