The New England Patriots should be heavily favored against the struggling New York Jets on Thursday. However, the Jets have shown some fight in recent weeks, and they still have talent on both sides of the ball, including on the offensive line.
For this week's Gimme Him, I am going with rookie offensive tackle Armand Membou.
Membou has lived up to his first-round draft stock, and so far, he has been one of the more impressive young offensive linemen this season. He's currently the highest-graded rookie offensive tackle by Pro Football Focus this year. Through nine NFL starts, he has given up 21 total pressures and three sacks.
He has lined up against some of the best defensive linemen in the NFL and held his own. In last week's win over the Cleveland Browns, along with Olu Fashanu, he helped hold Browns star defensive end Myles Garrett to one sack and two pressures in the game.
That's the same Myles Garrett who wrecked the Patriots' offensive line for five sacks in Week 8.
This is not to say that Morgan Moses is doing a poor job. In fact, he has helped anchor the offensive line. However, adding Membou opposite Will Campbell would give the Patriots an offensive line combination that would be lethal for years to come.
It's also important to consider that the Patriots have given up 34 sacks on the season. They have allowed 16 sacks in their last three games alone. Membou would immediately come in and help fix the pressure problems. It would take things to a whole other level in terms of providing adequate protection for quarterback Drake Maye.
With that said, he will be using his abilities to try and protect Jets quarterback Justin Fields from the Patriots' defense on Thursday night. It should be another stern test in the trenches for the Patriots on a short week against a division rival.
