The San Francisco Giants are expected to be major sellers at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, and they've made one big move already.

In a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Giants are sending Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian, parting with their All-Star second baseman and a controllable reliever who's been solid for two prospects: Marty Gair and Ramon Marquez.

ESPN's Bradford Doolittle gave the Giants an "A" grade for this trade, all thanks to the Giants getting Marquez in the trade with the Phillies.

Giants receive 'A' grade for Luis Arraez Phillies trade thanks to Ramon Marquez

"Giants grade: A," Doolittle writes. "Arraez was on an expiring deal, and while Kilian was a useful performer in the Giants' lackluster bullpen, folding him into the trade is more than worth it for a prospect of Marquez's caliber."

Arraez was expected to be traded this summer, though Kilian was not someone often mentioned in trade rumors. But, it doesn't matter, as the return they are getting is more than worth it.

Marquez is the Phillies' No. 4-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and while their farm system isn't the greatest, Marquez is a pitching prospect with an incredibly high ceiling.

The 20-year-old right-hander has a 1.68 ERA this season in 59 innings of work, and is breaking out as someone who could climb prospect rankings in the near future.

Gair is unranked in the Phillies' farm system, so the real reason why the Giants got an "A" for this trade of Arraez to Philadelphia is all about Marquez.

The upside with the now-former Phillies righty prospect is incredibly high. He's exactly the kind of prospect teams dream of when they ship out their rental players.

The Giants did very well on this blockbuster trade with the Phillies, as Marquez is an incredible pickup, and would've been more than worth it even if Gair wasn't included in the deal. This is a great trade for the Giants, and a great way to begin deadline day.
