The New York Giants have made their first player addition since hiring John Harbaugh as head coach, signing defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal to a reserve/future contract.

The move brings the 25-year-old former third-round pick to East Rutherford after four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Leal, selected 84th overall in the 2022 NFL draft out of Texas A&M, was a consensus All-American in his final college season, posting 58 tackles, 12.5 for loss, and 8.5 sacks.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder showed early promise as a versatile front-seven player but saw limited production in Pittsburgh, appearing in 32 games with six starts while recording 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one sack.

Released by the Steelers last week, Leal now gets a fresh start under Harbaugh's new regime.

Reserve/future contracts allow teams to secure players not on the previous season's 53-man roster for offseason workouts and training camp at minimum salary. Leal is the ninth such signing since the season ended, joining the following:

  • TE Tanner Conner
  • OL Reid Holskey
  • LB Trace Ford
  • LB Swayze Bozeman
  • CB Myles Purchase
  • S Patrick McMorris
  • OL Jake Kubas
  • DT Marlon Tuipulotu
  • LB DeMarvin Leal
