The New York Giants are moving quickly to fill their offensive coordinator position now that their top choice, Todd Monken, has accepted the head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns.

The Giants have requested permission to speak with Alex Tanney, the offensive passing game coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.

If that name sounds familiar, it should. Tanney was a backup quarterback with the Giants a few years back.

Tanney, 38, was famous for being an NFL backup quarterback, playing for eight teams in nine seasons between 2012 and 2020. His career ended with the Giants in 2020.

As a coach, Tanney began his career as an offensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021, eventually becoming their quarterback coach in 2023. He has been working for the Colts since 2024.

Yes, that means Tanney, who backed up Daniel Jones with the Giants, also worked with him in Indianapolis. Jones was having a Pro Bowl season last year until an Achilles injury cut his year short after 13 games.
