Oftentimes, the focus heading into training camp is on which players can break out during the upcoming season. The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue, however, took a different approach, highlighting one coach from each NFL team that could break out in 2026.
For the Indianapolis Colts, Rodrigue didn't choose one of the coordinators, but instead went deeper down Shane Steichen's coaching depth chart, mentioning passing game coordinator Alex Tanney.
In constructing this list, Rodrigue took into account conversations with team and league sources, observations from film study, plus insights from The Athletic's beat writers.
Along with Jones' red-hot start, the Colts had one of the most productive passing offenses in the NFL through 10 games last season. Even with their second-half slide, Indianapolis finished the year ranked ninth in yards per pass attempt.
As the passing game coordinator, Tanney works closely with Steichen and is tasked with helping design the passing attack each week, including play designs for specific situations, among other responsibilities.
Tanney has already gotten looks from at least one other team. Jim Harbaugh and the New York Giants requested to interview Tanney earlier this offseason for their offensive coordinator opening. That is likely the next step for Tanney in his coaching journey.
Along with Tanney, Rodrigue also mentions Colts' quarterbacks coach Cam Turner as another coach to watch.
