The New York Giants will play their first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday afternoon, and many have been wondering just how the Giants will approach the exhibition affair.
Would Jaxson Dart play? How many of the starters would actually be on the field?
Well, ESPN's Jordan Raanan has revealed that New York will be playing its first-team guys in this contest, and that includes Dart.
Raanan added that he doesn't know exactly how long Dart and the starters will play, but that head coach John Harbaugh values preseason experience.
Considering that Dart made a grand total of 12 starts during his rookie campaign last season, it does make sense to get him some work in the preseason, especially when you account for all of the new pieces around him.
Dart not only has three new wide receivers in Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III and Malachi Fields, but he also has a new tight end in Isaiah Likely and a rookie right guard in Francis Mauigoa.

Yes, you do have to guard against injuries, but you also want to be sure that everyone is in sync and forming a rapport before Week 1 of the regular season.
Dart enjoyed a very impressive rookie year in 2025, throwing for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.7 percent of his passes and posting a 91.7 passer rating. Additionally, he rushed for 487 yards and nine scores.
The former first-round pick definitely needs to do a better job of protecting himself when running the football this season, and it does seem like he has been working on that during training camp.
The Giants went just 4-13 last year, but they were very competitive in most of their losses (against strong competition, at that) and very easily could have won seven or eight games with a coupe of bounces here and there.
Many expect New York to be a playoff contender in 2026, but that may prove difficult in the rugged NFC. Plus, the Giants still have plenty of holes that have not been fully addressed. The health of Malik Nabers is a major factor, as well.
We'll see how Dart and Big Blue look in their first preseason contest.
