The New York Giants exchanged messages with free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason, though the contact never developed into contract negotiations.
Giants general manager Joe Schoen worked with Diggs in Buffalo, but the two sides determined it was not the right financial fit.
Diggs is now signing with the Washington Commanders and will take on the Giants twice per season. The four-time Pro Bowl receiver will join a new offense after stops with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans.
For the Giants, the limited outreach reflected a measured approach at the wide receiver position. While Schoen explored the possibility, the discussions stayed informal. Financial parameters on both sides prevented any serious pursuit from taking shape, allowing New York to pivot toward other roster priorities.
The Giants have directed resources elsewhere this offseason while evaluating internal options and additional free-agent targets. Diggs’ decision to sign with Washington ends any lingering interest from the Giants and closes that particular chapter of free-agency exploration.
