The word throughout the offseason was that the Washington Commanders needed another wide receiver for the 2026-27 campaign to help out quarterback Jaylen Daniels. On Wednesday, the organization found its man after signing Stefon Diggs on a one-year contract worth up to $12 million.
Hours after agreeing to the deal, the 32-year-old wideout shared a message to the organization and the fanbase, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Diggs revealed that he showed up to the Maryland Terrapins practice on Wednesday (his former college) after signing with the Commanders. While living it up with the Terrapins, he gave Washington a shoutout.
“Stefon Diggs here. I’m here at [Maryland’s] first practice, the first fall practice,” Diggs said. “They out here getting it in, man. Shoutout to my Terps, and go, Commanders. Let’s go!”

Maryland is less than an hour away from Washington, D.C. So, the four-time Pro Bowler likely feels he’s right back at home now that he’s playing for the Commanders. He is slated to step right into the No. 2 role behind Terry McLaurin, giving the offense a much-needed boost in the wide receiver room.
Stefon Diggs is coming off a solid campaign with the New England Patriots. He finished the 11th season of his career with 85 receptions, 1,013 yards, and four touchdowns, showing he has plenty of juice left in the tank.
With Diggs in Washington, that likely means the Commanders will not pursue a trade for the San Francisco 49ers’ disgruntled star Brandon Aiyuk. After what felt like hundreds of videos and posts about wanting to play for Washington, the franchise ultimately decided to go in a different direction.
