San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee was detained on Wednesday night at the Los Angeles International Airport on a flight back from South Korea, his agent told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Specifics aren’t yet clear, but his agent said that it was just a paper work issue that led to Lee’s detainment. They are “attempting to resolve it” now, and a spokesperson for Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) said that her office is actively working with the Giants organization to resolve the situation.
Lee has spent the last two seasons in the league with the Giants. He held a .266 batting average with eight home runs and 55 RBIs last season, all career-highs for the 27-year-old. Spring training for the Giants is set to start next month in Scottsdale, Arizona, in early February. The team, which went 81-81 last season and missed the playoffs for a fourth straight year, will officially open the 2026 campaign against the New York Yankees on March 25.
This post will be updated with more information shortly.
