The New York Giants selected Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.

Schmitz is a talented center who has flashed his potential on multiple occasions over the first three seasons of his career. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound lineman will play a critical role in protecting quarterback Jaxson Dart this year, and Schmitz could quickly begin to shine throughout his fourth season on the Giants’ offensive line.

Schmitz was recently asked about Dart’s progress over the course of the offseason, with the big man claiming that Dart has taken his game to an even higher level.

“I think Jaxson’s taken the next step in his game, and he’s understanding the defense a lot better—understanding if the safety tilts, man pressures, where the pressure might be coming from,” he told Giants Huddle. “Just little things in his game that he’s picked up this offseason that have made a tremendous impact already.”

Dart recorded 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns across 14 total appearances in 2025. The star quarterback could quickly begin to dominate once again this year, and Schmitz’s comments regarding Dart’s progress are an excellent sign moving forward.

Schmitz played a critical role in Dart’s success throughout his rookie campaign, and the duo will once again look to shine on the Giants’ offense in 2026.
