After initially indicating that Giannis Antetokounmpo would resume wearing his customary No. 34 with the Miami Heat, the franchise pivoted late July 6 and announced that the former Milwaukee Bucks star would be adorned in No. 7, instead.

The Heat announced that any Antetokounmpo jersey orders already placed with the No. 34 would be fulfilled with the new No. 7 instead.

No Miami Heat player has worn the No. 34 since Ray Allen in 2014. Allen, who also wore No. 34 during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks, has a special place in Heat lore after leading Miami to the 2013 NBA championship, notably with an iconic three-pointer in Game 6 that allowed the Heat to force Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs.

The No. 7, meanwhile, was last worn by Kel'el Ware, one of several players traded to the Bucks in the deal that sent Antetokounmpo to Miami. The exchange that also sent Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez, Kasparas Jakučionis and draft picks to the Bucks became official earlier July 6.
