BILLINGS - The Great Falls High wrestling team extended a streak and kept hopes for another alive.
Cael Floerchinger and Jace Komac advanced to the finals for the Bison on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Montana State Wrestling Meet at First Interstate Arena, while defending state champ Mady Deiter and Gage Allen moved on for C.M. Russell High.
With the two title-round berths, Great Falls High has now had at least one grappler in the state finals each season for the past 70 years (1956). The Bison can also add to another impressive spell with an individual champ on Saturday, as the program has had a state title-winner the past 41 years.

Floerchinger worked fast again as he racked up a 21-4 technical fall over Glacier’s Zander Fuehr, the No. 2 ranked 126-pounder from the Western AA. It is Floerchinger’s third straight final berth as he seeks his third straight championship.
Komac, a three-time placer, controlled the action in his semifinal victory at 157 as he teched Butte’s Bode Hazlett — a state champ last year at 144 — 18-0. Komac was a state finalist as a sophomore and was third at 150 last season.
Allen made his way to the semis with a pair of falls before pinning Billings West’s Lane Humphrey 1:37 into the bout.
Deiter was likewise dominant on the girls’ side at 125 en route to the semifinals, earning a first-round pin and a 16-0 technical fall in her first two matches of the meet. Deiter was involved in an early scramble with Fort Benton’s Maia Campbell before gaining the upper hand and securing the pin with under a minute into her semifinal match.
Great Falls High’s Brandon Schoenen seized one of the top upsets of the tournament so far as he pinned Western AA champ Quincy King of Missoula Big Sky, who was third at 190 last year, in the first round of the quarterfinals. However, Schoenen fell by fall in the semis to Gallatin’s J.D. McWalter.
Fellow Bison Damen Furthmyre made a trip to the 215 semis but fell to top-ranked Kohen Riley of Flathead.
CMR’s De La Garza, a two-time placer, fell late in a barnburner to Glacier’s Aidan Sweat, who secured a late takedown to earn the 5-4 decision.
Ross Tolliver (138) was knocked down to the elimination bracket for the Bison after a hard-fought 10-6 loss to Missoula Sentinel’s Jayce Kolendich, while Bo Potter (103) dropped his semifinal to Crew O’Connor of Butte.
Faith Oakland earned a trip to the semis for the Bison girls at 140 before falling to two-time champion Meadow Mahlmeister of Billings Senior.
Consolation matches begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with the consolation finals slated for 1 p.m.
The Parade of Finalists is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by the title bouts on four mats simultaneously.
