Aaron Jensen was a first-year head coach the last time C.M. Russell High took a dual over its archrival.
On Thursday night, his squad reclaimed the edge over Great Falls High.
The Rustlers earned a 45-31 dual triumph over the Bison on Feb. 5 in front of a packed house at the Great Falls High Old Gym in the final event of the regular season.

It was the first win for CMR over Great Falls High since the Mining City Duals in 2008, Jensen’s first season with the program.
“It’s been longer than I care to remember,” Jensen said. “But it doesn’t matter right now, because right now, we win. So, we can start a new streak now.”
The Rustlers earned seven pins, the last coming from start junior Gage Allen in the 190-pound bout in the first round over Davin Carpenter to clinch the dual.
Senior heavyweight Peyton Fenner put the icing on the cake in the final bout with a 5-2 sudden victory over Brandon Schoenen.
Also earning falls for CMR were Paydon De La Garza (118), Isaac Mckamey (126), Landon Odegard (138), Madden Jensen (150), Kane Mahlum (165), and Wil Rhoten (175).
“This is awesome, this is fun,” said Jensen, who was animated all night mat side. “We’re going to go to practice tomorrow and get ready for two tournaments (divisionals and state) that we’re really after. But this is something that we definitely wanted.”
Bo Potter (103), Jace Tillman (110) and Cael Floerchinger (132) picked up pin wins for Great Falls High and head coach Luis Carranza, while Ross Tolliver (144) earned a 17-0 technical fall and Jace Komac (157) won 12-0 by major decision over Tegan Dixon in a matchup of ranked opponents.
Great Falls High took the girls’ dual 42-29, with Andrea Kennedy, Faith Oakland, and Isabella Medrud picking up pins.
Mady Deiter won by first-round fall for the Rustlers, while Kailynn Kramer earned a hard-fought victory over Layla Svigen by pin in the third round. Brianna Wible was dominant in a 16-0 tech fall win for the Rustlers.
The Eastern AA divisional seeding tournament is set for Saturday, Feb. 14, in Belgrade, followed by the state meet on Feb. 19-21 at the Billings Metra.
