Germany are sweating on the fitness of captain Giulia Gwinn after the defender left their women's Euro 2025 opener against Poland in tears in the first half with an apparant left knee injury.
Gwinn, 26, hurt herself in a tackle against Poland star Ewa Pajor. She returned after treatment but lay down immediately again and was helped off in the 40th minute.
A diagnosis was not available immediately from the German team.
Bayern Munich's Gwinn rupured a cruciate ligament in her right knee in 2020 and in her left knee in 2022, which sidelined her for many months on both occasions.
Gwinn is considered a key player in the German team which is bidding for a record extending ninth title at the Euros in Switzerland. Thweir other group stage opponents are Denmark and Sweden.
